Young Everton forward sprinting to the top of his class

The 2017/18 Everton season is young, but England U21 international Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been a revelation so far. In truth, it would not be out of order to say that “DCL” might be the top performer in the squad to date.

Calvert-Lewin’s late goal against MFK Ruzomberok was responsible for putting the second leg - and the tie - to bed, and through 3 Premier League appearances, the Englishman has two assists. Without Calvert-Lewin’s incessant harrying of defenders and runs in behind at Manchester City, it’s unlikely that the Blues come away with a point at the Etihad.

One of the hallmarks of DCL’s play is his hard work. It’s no surprise, then, that as the annual “fastest players in the Premier League” report comes out, that Dominic Calvert-Lewin makes the list.

The 20 year old finds himself in 9th place, just ahead of N’Golo Kante and just behind Jamie Vardy. Kyle Walker tops the list at 35.16 km/hour (21.84 mph), while Calvert-Lewin was clocked at 34.62 km/hour (20.51 mph).

Of course, neither Walker or DCL can compete with noted speedster Phil Jagielka, who in 2014 was timed at a stunning 35.99 km/hour (22.30 mph). Maybe Dom and Phil can stage a race after training. I know I’d watch.
