With the return of Yannick Bolasie and entrance of Theo Walcott, Aaron Lennon was already staring a reduction of minutes right in the face. The 30 year old has been a major contributor this season, especially in terms of helping Jonjoe Kenny’s development.

According to ESPN, Newcastle United are interested in acquiring Lennon this month, and think they can do so cheaply.

Newcastle are considering a move for Everton winger Aaron Lennon, sources have told ESPN FC.

...

Several Premier League clubs are monitoring Lennon’s situation, and because he is out of contract this summer he could be available for a cut-price fee.

Newcastle are desperate to strengthen their squad before the window closes, with manager Rafa Benitez feeling new blood is needed to help avoid a relegation fight.

There hasn’t been any word of contract negotiations with Lennon over a return to Everton next year, so it seems likely the club would be open to letting him move on.

On the one hand, it’d be a shame - “Azza” is by all accounts a wonderful human, and Blues worldwide were affected by his battle with mental health issues recently. If he goes, Lennon will be remembered fondly at Goodison Park.

On the other hand, Nikola Vlasic and Ademola Lookman need to play, and so too will Henry Onyekuru eventually. It’ll be sad to see Lennon go, but it could be ideal for all parties involved.
