One of the more intriguing Boxing Day matchups in the Premier League sees Manchester United hosting Burnley, with both teams in mediocre form but with lots on the line.

Manchester United are watching their title dreams slowly slip away, with crosstown rivals, Manchester City, pulling further away with every point the second-place Red Devils drop. Now United are at risk of falling out of second place as well, and they can ill-afford to drop any more points right now with Jose Mourinho’s old club Chelsea nipping at their heels.

But Burnley have plenty to play for as well. In fact, with a huge win at Old Trafford and favorable results elsewhere on the day, Burnley could end the day even on points with fourth-place Liverpool. Their own form has been a bit scattered of late, though, sporting the same two-wins-and-two-losses in their last five league matches as Manchester United.

Further complicating this match is the sheer number of injuries for both teams — Manchester United have six defenders and midfielders unavailable for this match, including their first-choice center back pairing of Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly. Burnley have seven players injured or suspended for this match, including leading scorer Chris Wood, with impacts all over the pitch. That’s going to make it a little harder to take full advantage of United’s injuries, but regardless there’s a lot of potential for drama, chaos, and excitement in this match.
