The return of Wayne Rooney to Everton isn’t just a sentimental one. With Romelu Lukaku gone, the Toffees actually need him to produce. And he’s off to a great start, scoring in the first half of his first match back with his boyhood club.
The Toffees had a tough first half against Stoke City, but came up with an excellent move at the end of the period. Goals don’t get much more well-worked than this, and Rooney’s header was perfect.
Welcome home, Wayne.
