Watch the moment Jonny Bairstow catches the six that brought up Moeen Ali's 50 on the England balcony.

How do you ensure your team-mates are paying attention as you make your way through to fifty?

Answer: You bring up your half century by smashing a six in their direction to the team dressing room.

That's certainly what Moeen Ali did as he smashed Keshav Maharaj for a superbly-struck straight six at Old Trafford, and then there waiting on the England balcony to casually claim the catch was none other than Jonny Bairstow.

Reward for Bairstow's fine efforts? Getting mocked by his captain Joe Root, as his Yorkshire and England team-mate mocked his celebratory wave to the crowd.

Rain ended play prematurely shortly afterwards, with Moeen - dropped on 15 by Dean Elgar at slip - unbeaten on 67 off 59 balls, as England extended their lead to 360 on day three of the fourth Test.

Moeen Ali tells Ian Ward he decided the best defence was attack on a tricky pitch after reaching his half-century on day three of the fourth Test at Old Trafford.

Reflecting on his innings with Sky Sports' Ian Ward in The Zone, Ali said: "I was really getting going - we needed a bit of momentum and it came off for me, even though I had a couple of chances.

"I backed my defence but then I felt that sometimes you can be a bit of a sitting duck. The crowd was going, too, so I thought I would go for it and back myself. Sometimes you have to take the odd risk."
