Arsenal will be without striker Danny Welbeck for Wednesday's Carabao Cup third round clash at home to Doncaster.

Welbeck will be out for about a month, missing the Premier League games with West Brom and Brighton and the Europa League tie at Bate Borisov of Belarus.

Arsenal last won the competition in 1993, losing in the 2011 final against Birmingham City at Wembley, while Doncaster got to the quarter-finals in 2005/06, losing to Arsenal on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

Midfielder Jack Wilshere played his first Gunners game in over a year in last week's Europa League win over Cologne.

Doncaster manager Darren Ferguson says Tommy Rowe is fit to face Arsenal after picking up a calf injury at the weekend, while Jordan Houghton is also fit again.

Arsenal have met Doncaster twice in the League Cup, a 4-0 victory over two legs in 1987-88 and penalty shootout victory in the 2005-06 quarter-finals.

In fact, that was only the second occasion that Doncaster had progressed to the fourth round or further of the League Cup, with the other in 1975-76.

The Gunners haven't lost to lower league opposition at home in the League Cup since November 1983 against Walsall, winning 25 of their last 28 contests, including the last seven in a row.

    Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal

In contrast, Donny have only won once in their last 19 League Cup away trips against teams from a higher division - a 2-1 win against Watford at Vicarage Road in August 2014.

Arsenal have only fallen at the third-round stage once in the last 14 seasons - a 2-1 loss against Southampton at the Emirates in September 2014.

Doncaster are one of just three English teams that Arsene Wenger has faced as Arsenal manager but failed to beat (Port Vale and Rotherham), though the Gunners did progress on penalties in their League Cup tie in December 2005.
