Everton v Bournemouth preview: Cherries defender Tyrone Mings sidelined for at least a month

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - FEBRUARY 04: Tyrone Mings of AFC Bournemouth during the Premier League match between Everton and AFC Bournemouth at Goodison Park on

Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings will be sidelined for at least a month with a back injury as the Cherries travel to Everton in the Premier League on Saturday.

The 24-year-old has struggled with injuries since moving to the Vitality Stadium, and will now face a further spell out of action with his latest knock.

But despite being a defender down, Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe insists Everton have lost none of their attacking threat despite the summer departure of top scorer Romelu Lukaku.

"Look at Wayne Rooney, look at his goalscoring record and you're going to say they're less potent an attack," Howe said. "I don't buy that.

"I think the quality that they've recruited, they're a very good football team, they've got some really good footballers in their team. I think they're a strong side."

Watch a preview of Saturday’s Premier League games including West Ham v Tottenham, Man City v Crystal Palace and Stoke v Chelsea

Saturday's match is the second of four home games in a row for Everton, and after six games without a victory in all competitions, they stopped the rot with Wednesday's Carabao Cup victory over Sunderland.

"Let's hope it will be a positive turning point, what we need," Everton manager Ronald Koeman said of the result. "The first step was [on Wednesday] and now Saturday is really important.

"Every game is important and you play to win every game, but with the last results, of course we need another win at home. The fixtures were difficult but now we need to show we are still strong. I'm confident after what I saw [on Wednesday]."

Bournemouth 2-1 Brighton

Merson's prediction

I was pleased Everton put in a strong display to beat Sunderland in the Carabao Cup - for me they should be aiming for cup success this season.

That result should give them a little bit of a boost after the Spurs and Manchester United drubbings and I think they beat Bournemouth.

This fixture is the second of four consecutive home games and they need to get on a roll in front of their fans to shake off this poor start to the season.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe says back-to-back victories over south coast rivals Brighton has given the club a huge lift - following a poor start to the season

Bournemouth have won two on the spin - against Brighton in league and Carabao Cup - so they may fancy their chances. I even heard one of their players mention Europe. I'm sorry, no.

PAUL PREDICTS: 2-0 (Sky Bet odds 13/2)
