Manchester United 2-1 CSKA Moscow: Marcus Rashford stars as United secure top spot

Manchester United secured top spot in Group A of the Champions League after coming from behind to beat CSKA Moscow 2-1 at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

Vitinho had put CSKA ahead (45) in bizarre fashion despite the ball appearing to come off Alan Dzagoev, who looked two yards offside.

But United - sparked by impressive performances from Marcus Rashford and the returning Luke Shaw - turned the game around in a 66-second period with goals from Romelu Lukaku (65) and Rashford (66).

The hosts' 15-point haul was enough to top the group with Basel - who won against Benfica - finishing runners-up ahead of CSKA.

The result stretches United's unbeaten run at Old Trafford to 40 matches - something Manchester City will be looking to snap when they visit on Super Sunday.

Jose Mourinho handed Shaw his first start of the season and the full-back repaid that faith with an electric showing, especially in the first half.

He tested Igor Akinfeev with a volley and almost laid a cross on a plate for Rashford, who had hit the post in the opening 10 minutes following a wonderful pass from Lukaku.

CSKA needed a win to stand any chance of leapfrogging Basel and always looked to throw men forward where possible - they got their reward just before the break.

Mario Fernandes burst down the right to send in a cross for Vitinho to strike home off Dzagoev's back. United players were angered that offside was not called against Dzagoev, but officials appeared to point to off-the-field Daley Blind playing him onside.

The goal did not fluster United, who equalised through Lukaku. Paul Pogba chipped a superb ball over the top for the striker, who held off Viktor Vasin and directed it past Akinfeev.

It took just 66 seconds for United to complete the comeback when Rashford raced onto a pass over the top before slotting home for his first goal in nine games, United making sure of top spot ahead of Monday's Champions League last-16 draw.
