Jesse Lingard revealed a dressing room shift at Manchester United to Sky Sports News

Jesse Lingard says the mood in the Manchester United dressing room has shifted and has welcomed talk of winning the title.

United sit top of the Premier League following a 4-0 win over West Ham in the opening round of fixtures last weekend, with new £90m signing Romelu Lukaku scoring twice in the victory.

Despite their sixth-placed finish last season, Lingard believes United's trophy haul - and subsequent Champions League qualification - has altered the atmosphere at Old Trafford, which has only benefited their arrivals during the transfer window.

"There's a lot of confidence flying around at the moment and it's good that we can stick together and be a part of it," Lingard, who came on as a substitute in United's win over West Ham, told Sky Sports News.

"Even the lads who weren't involved at the weekend still played a big part in the win."

Asked if the mood has changed in the dressing room, Lingard said: "You could say that. We've come off the back of three trophies, so the confidence is flowing.

"The group that we had it was easy for players to settle in, the likes of Rom [Lukaku] and Victor [Lindelof], it was always going to be easy for them. They're very down to earth guys and they want to work hard on the training pitch."

Could Manchester United's 4-0 thrashing of West Ham signal a new dawn for Jose Mourinho's side? We examine the signs of transformation.

Jose Mourinho insisted his Manchester United side "played with confidence" in Sunday's victory, United's biggest win in the Premier League for nearly three years, and Lingard echoed his manager's sentiments by fuelling talk of the Premier League title returning to Old Trafford.

"I don't see why not," said Lingard. "The whole team is working hard this season and hopefully we'll win trophies. We're in a lot of competitions, the more trophies the better."

Lingard made 25 Premier League appearances for United last season and admits he will face added competition in the new campaign following the arrival of Nemanja Matic, but Lingard will not hide in his more physical team-mates' shadows.

"It's a very tall dressing room but you've got to handle yourself and let them score the headers," joked Lingard.

"I didn't really watch him [Matic] much last season but you can see what he can bring to the team. He's a player that's very stable on the ball and can keep it ticking over for us.

"We know Nemanja is a different midfield player and he can just feed the ball to Paul [Pogba] and the other midfield players and let them play their own game. He can sit back and stabilise the play for us."
