Jose Mourinho praised his side's professional performance as they saw off Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup

Jose Mourinho was pleased to see Manchester United's attacking players enjoying their football as they kicked off their League Cup defence with a 4-1 victory over Burton.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial starred as United eased past the Sky Bet Championship club in the Carabao Cup third-round tie, and Mourinho hailed a professional performance.

When asked how impressed he was with 19-year-old England international Rashford, Mourinho told Sky Sports: "Yes, but Martial was good, (Juan) Mata was good, (Jesse) Lingard was good.

"I think everybody in attacking areas gave a good dynamic to the team and especially happiness. We look happy playing football in this moment and that's what I want.

"They all want to play, they are all ready to play, they all want to use the minutes they have on the pitch to try and improve and have the pleasure of playing.

"I think the first half we gave no chances to the opponents, we went strong, gave a very good dynamic and arrived 3-0 at half-time.

"I think they [Burton] were fighting for a result that could give some dignity, not to lose by too many.

"Nigel (Clough) made it clear that the match at the weekend is more important for them.

"He made a few changes and I think everybody is happy, no injuries, no cards, we won which was our desire and they lost for a result with dignity and they had a positive performance, so I think everybody is happy."

Burton boss Nigel Clough was delighted to see his side score at Old Trafford, even if Lloyd Dyer's strike was the last kick of the game.

"We were getting into good situations and not making more of them," Clough said.

"We started the game on the front foot and tried to pin them back as much as you can here, but their first attack was a brilliant bit of play and he ends up with a great goal.

Burton manager Nigel Clough said his side tried to be positive

"It was just lovely for our supporters to get a goal. Most of them will never have dreamt that Burton Albion would ever score at Old Trafford. We've played here twice in 11 years and we've actually scored a goal now.

"It was an open game at times which might not necessarily suit us, but we tried to be positive."
