Man Utd manager Jose Mourinho was critical of Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho says Dejan Lovren's thoughts on his clash with Romelu Lukaku at Anfield do not add up.

The Liverpool centre-half claimed on Monday that the United striker deliberately stamped on him during Saturday's goalless draw at Anfield.

With Sky Sports News reporting that the FA would not pursue a case against Lukaku, Lovren believed there was intent.

"My honest view was he did it on purpose," Lovren said. "Even if he didn't do it [on purpose], he would usually apologise, he was nervous during the game, that was also the reason.

"I cannot say I'm disappointed, it is what it is, we need to move on, that's football."

It was a view that rankled with Mourinho, who hit back at the Croatian defender during United's Champions League press conference in Lisbon on Tuesday.

"There is a big contradiction," said Mourinho ahead of Wednesday's clash against Benfica.

"He said let's move on and forget what happened but then he spends 10 seconds talking about what he thinks what happened and didn't happen.

"For me, the FA committee is there to make decisions so I have no comment."
