All the latest Arsenal transfer news and rumours from across the British and European press on Tuesday, January 2.

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil tops Barcelona's wish list for next season, according to reports in the Daily Express.

The German, like Alexis Sanchez and Jack Wilshere, will be available on a free this summer.

Midfielder Wilshere has again reiterated that he wants to put pen to paper on a new contract with the north London club.

Speaking on Instagram, the England international, whose current Gunners deal runs out next summer, wrote "long may it continue" in relation to extending his stay at the Emirates.

Meanwhile, Rangers are hoping to take young midfielder Marcus McGuane on loan until the end of the season, says the Sun.

The 18-year-old has made two substitute appearances in the Europa League this campaign.

Elsewhere, Southampton and Everton will go head to head in the battle to sign out-of-favour forward Theo Walcott in January, says the Daily Telegraph.

And Alexis, another whose deal expires at the end of June, is dreaming of joining Spanish and European champions Real Madrid on a free next season, claims Don Balon.

The Chile international has also been linked with a switch to runaway Premier League leaders Man City in the summer.

Finally, Arsenal have received a boost over target Leon Goretzka after his agent denied the Schalke midfielder is ready to move to Bayern Munich, according to reports in the Sun.

The Germany international is one of the most sought-after players in the Bundesliga, although Arsene Wenger may have to beat off competition from the likes of the Bundesliga champions, as well as Barcelona and Liverpool, in order to sign the 22-year-old next season.
