Graeme Souness and Jamie Redknapp believe time is running out for Ronald Koeman to turn around Everton's fortunes, with Redknapp saying his position is "almost untenable".
Arsenal piled more pressure on the Dutchman by beating Everton 5-2 at Goodison Park on Nissan Super Sunday.
It was the Toffees' fifth defeat from their opening nine Premier League games and they sit in the relegation zone having taken just eight points.
They have won just two of their last 13 matches in all competitions, and even though Koeman told Sky Sports after the Arsenal defeat that he remains the right person to turn things around, Redknapp is not convinced.
"His position is almost untenable," he said. "It really is difficult, the results are poor, as is the manner they are losing matches.
"Everton are not the sort of club that would normally panic but the results and the way they are losing are damning. In such a high-profile game you need a result, even a performance where you can say you were close, but 5-2 is not the sort of result that keeps you in a job."
Souness said he had some sympathy for Koeman, adding: "I saw a man there who was hurting badly. I've been in that situation when it's not going well and you're looking for answers.
"His problem is he spent a lot of money in the summer and the expectation level went through the roof. It wasn't just about doing better than last season, it was about getting into the top four and that's not going to happen.
"They are passionate supporters, the Evertonians. They won't like it and won't accept it for very long."
When asked if time has run out for Koeman, Thierry Henry said: "The board has to decide that. I felt sorry for him too.
"He has to front up because he's the manager. Obviously, he will say it's not too late because he believes he can turn it around but will the board believe it?
"He's been on some really bad runs before. I hope he can stay but it looks like it will be very difficult."
