Mauricio Pochettino says a Wembley winning culture is vital and hails Harry Kane

Mauricio Pochettino admits Tottenham's Wembley goal this season is on getting positive results rather than pure entertainment.

Spurs completed a record 14 straight home wins in a single season by beating Manchester United 2-1 in their farewell to the old White Hart Lane last season, and finished runners-up in the Premier League behind Chelsea.

Chelsea ended the Spurs' run with a 2-1 win at Wembley in Tottenham's first home match of the 2017/18 season, before Burnley held Pochettino's men to a 1-1 draw at the national stadium.

But Harry Kane's double helped Tottenham to a first Champions League win at Wembley in a 3-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, having won only two of their 12 previous fixtures there.

"I am so happy in the way that we played," he said. "The performance maybe wasn't our best performance but it was very solid and you need to show that solidity and performance when you play at the top level because the Champions League demands [that] you need to play and to be solid."

Harry Kane was delighted to net a crucial double against Borussia Dortmund

Tottenham host Swansea in their temporary home on Saturday evening and Pochettino is convinced a corner has been turned after the club's opening home success against Dortmund.

"I think it's clear - it's so important for us," he said. "It will help us to build our confidence and trust, playing there at Wembley. We must feel that is our home. I think that victories are so important.

"I told you after the [Dortmund] game that it means more than three points to try to stop a little of the negativity about Wembley.

"It was the perception but, for us, it was never negative. [We] think very positive things. I think it will help us in the future. It must help."

In-form England forward Kane, meanwhile, now has four goals in as many Champions League appearances and struck six times in his last four matches for club and country and Pochettino again paid tribute to the 24-year-old.

"He's so focused," the Argentine added. "First of all he's an example for everyone as he's so focused and tries to improve himself. His whole motivation is so high."

Kane has scored 80 league goals in 120 appearances and Pochettino believes even Alan Shearer's Premier League best total of 260 may not be out of reach.

"Alan Shearer was a great, one of the best," Pochettino said. "But Harry has it all in his hands to try to do everything he wants. He knows well it is step by step and about trying to build his way. I think he is doing fantastic.

"If you see the stats he has a fantastic record and with Harry's mentality, [anything] can happen.

"His mentality is to stay here. He is so happy not only in the Premier League, he is more than happy to stay at Tottenham. He shows every single day how he loves the club."

Fernando Llorente came on late at Wembley to replace Kane for his Spurs debut and, when asked if the Spain forward could make his bow against his former club, Pochettino said: "He made his debut the other day against Dortmund [so] why not? Maybe.

"You know we have a plan to play tomorrow and then we'll decide whether he'll play or not. Whether he's on the bench. But I think we are so happy with him.

"I think he [will] have a very good impact on the team, in the club and [he] will be important during the whole season."
