Dele Alli could find out this week whether he will be suspended for his middle-finger gesture towards England team-mate Kyle Walker.

FIFA's disciplinary committee is meeting on Wednesday and Thursday, and Alli's case is on their agenda.

The Tottenham midfielder was shown on television making the gesture in England's 2-1 win over Slovakia at the start of September, a win that put Gareth Southgate's side on the verge of winning World Cup European Qualifiers Group F.

Alli was quick to stress that it had been aimed at his former White Hart Lane team-mate, but FIFA opened disciplinary proceedings against him and should have a decision by Thursday.

Walker provided written evidence to back his team-mate and the Football Association sent on additional video footage which it believes proves Alli did not aim the gesture at French referee Clement Turpin.

Southgate is due to name his squad for next month's Wembley encounter against Slovenia and the trip to Lithuania the same day, with Alli expected to be in it if FIFA have not handed down their decision by then.

Suspension and/or a financial penalty are open to FIFA should Alli be found guilty.

A FIFA spokesperson said: "We can confirm that this case will be on the agenda of the Disciplinary Committee which is scheduled to meet on 27/28 September.

"The decision will be communicated in due course; please note that disciplinary decisions are usually notified and communicated a few days after the hearing."

Alli being absent for the final two qualifiers would be another blow to Southgate's midfield options, with Nathaniel Chalobah the latest player to be ruled out.

Adam Lallana and Danny Drinkwater are also sidelined leaving Southgate to possibly consider Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for a central role.
