European sides can't strengthen their squads until January but that doesn't stop deals from being struck and contracts being agreed ahead of the winter transfer window opening.

And our friends at Football Whispers have scoured the continent to bring you all the latest transfer news and gossip from the European newspapers.

Spain

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is not "an immediate Real Madrid transfer target" and Los Blancos won't pursue a striker in January. The Champions League holders had the chance to watch the England international at the Bernabeu this week but weren't convinced by Kane's display. (Marca)

Real Madrid did not include a buy-back clause in the summer deal which saw Mariano Diaz joined Lyon for €8m. The 24-year-old striker has netted seven goals in 11 games for the French club and there has been some suggestion Los Blancos could re-sign the striker to bolster their attacking ranks.

Milan have drawn up a list of potential candidates to replace the struggling Vincenzo Montella and there is a surprise name at the top of their list. The Rossoneri, after a lavish summer of spending, are already way off the pace in Serie A and the club's hierarchy are ready to make a change.

Thomas Tuchel, Guus Hiddink and Carlo Ancelotti are all potential replacements but it is former Watford manager Walter Mazzarri who is supposedly favourite for the job. (Calcio Mercato)

Marco Verratti says he opted to remain at PSG this summer instead of forcing through a move to Barcelona because of the Ligue 1 club's "project".

"People think that I play for PSG for the money, but I could get that elsewhere, too. If I had moved in the summer, there were clubs ready to pay €100m to sign me and I would have earned a lot more." (L'Equipe)

Portugal

Manchester United are hopeful of sealing a deal for Benfica full-back Alex Grimaldo, who impressed Jose Mourinho in their Champions League meeting on Wednesday.

Left-back has been a problem area for the United boss since he arrived at Old Trafford with Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo, Matteo Darmian and Luke Shaw all failing to convince Mourinho. And the Portuguese is now ready to pursue Grimaldo, who is valued at £36m. (Record)

Amin Younes is frustrated Ajax blocked a potential summer move that would've increased his chances of going to next summer's World Cup with Germany.

"Three big clubs in Germany and Italy wanted to me and were ready to pay a large transfer fee. That would have increased my odds on the World Cup with Germany, but a transfer was unquestionable for Ajax." (De Telegraaf)
