Ray Wilkins has backed Mauricio Pochettino's decision to leave out Harry Kane for Tottenham's clash against Man Utd

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is "very wise" to rest Harry Kane for their clash with Manchester United, says Premier League Daily guest Ray Wilkins.

The England striker has been ruled out of Saturday's clash - live on Sky Sports - due to a minor strain to his left hamstring which he suffered during Spurs' 4-1 Premier League win over Liverpool last Sunday.

Pochettino has confirmed his injury is not considered serious and he could be could be fit in time face Real Madrid in the Champions League at Wembley on Wednesday.

Wilkins thinks it is the right decision to rest the 24-year-old, who is the leading Premier League scorer this season with eight goals.

"It's very wise, because if they do play him and it does snap, then he has got massive problem," Wilkins said.

"You are two months minimum, then you have to recuperate and you have to get your fitness back.

"Then he has to take a couple of games to get back into it," he added. "It's a long old slap with the hamstring.

Kane scored twice as Tottenham beat Liverpool 4-1 last Sunday

Kane has been a crucial part to Spurs' success after scoring 13 goals in 12 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham this season.

Spurs are currently level on points with United but remain third in the Premier League table due to goal difference, ahead of the clash live on Sky Sports Premier League.
