Lucy Bronze has moved to European champions Lyon from Manchester City in a deal which sees German forward Pauline Bremer move the other way.

Sky sources reported on Monday that the two-time PFA Player of the Year was on the verge of joining the Champions League holders, who eliminated City in the semi-finals of last year's competition.

The 48-cap England international helped the Lionesses to the semi-finals of Euro 2017 earlier this summer and is the third high-profile player to leave City this year after the recent departures of Toni Duggan and Kosovare Asllani.

Bronze said: "I'm very excited to join Olympique Lyonnais who have the best women's team in the world, with the best players in the world. I needed a new challenge, to go higher.

"I remember how hard it was to play against OL in the Champions League. I can't wait to start this new adventure."

But City have now completed a deal for Bremer, who helped Germany win the U20 World Cup in 2014 and went on to make her debut for the senior side at the age of just 18.

"After seeing the facilities and resources available at Manchester City, the decision to join the club was a no brainer for me," said Bremer.

"I've never seen anything like this before and I can't wait to get started.

"From the moment you walk through the door everyone makes you feel so welcome and the vision Manchester City have for the club and the women's game as a whole is inspiring.

"To be at a club where everyone is so passionate and committed to helping women's football reach the next level is such a privilege and I am so excited to be a part of it."

City head coach Nick Cushing added: "Pauline is an incredibly talented player and the perfect fit for Manchester City.

"She has already delivered many exceptional performances, but we know she has even more to offer and are delighted to have her join the team.

"As we move into the next phase of our development, the team is evolving and Pauline will add a new dimension to our overall squad performance.

"Her creativity and determination is what we need to raise our game and I'm looking forward to working with her over the next few seasons."
