Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann have offered their support to Manchester City's injured defender Benjamin Mendy.

The France international ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament during the first half of Saturday's 5-0 Premier League victory at home to Crystal Palace and will be out of action until April.

City's £52m summer signing underwent surgery in Barcelona on Friday and was in good spirits, tweeting: "Surgery done: Jesé & I nailed it. see you asap guys"

Mendy's Jese reference was concerning a nurse that has helped him over the last two days who he felt looked similar to Stoke City striker Jese Rodriguez!

Mendy also received support on social media from two of his French team-mates.

PSG striker Mbappe tweeted: "Big support to you my friend in this difficult I know you can do and know that everyone is with you".

While Atletico Madrid forward Griezmann added: "Courage amigo!!"

After tests in Manchester at the start of the week, the 23-year-old travelled to Spain to see a specialist doctor and further examinations of the knee on Thursday confirmed the extent of the injury.

Speaking on Thursday ahead of Saturday's trip to Chelsea, manager Pep Guardiola emphasised how much Mendy would be missed.

Guardiola said: "In the way he plays, the amount of times he goes up and down the sides, there is no replacement, we have to play in a different way.

"Every player has his own qualities but there is no replacement in the world for the energy Benjamin has on the pitch."
