Slaven Bilic admits West Ham were not good enough in their 3-0 defeat by Newcastle on Saturday

Slaven Bilic admits West Ham were not good enough in their 3-0 defeat by Newcastle on Saturday, which leaves them winless in the Premier League.

Goals from Joselu, Ciaran Clark and Alexandar Mitrovic gave Newcastle their first win of the season, with West Ham second best throughout at St James' Park.

Bilic was unhappy with his side's performance, saying Newcastle were better than them in every department.

Bilic told Sky Sports: "They were the better team, it's very disappointing, frustrating that we played the way we played.

"They were quicker, better in transition, better onto the second ball, and they punished out mistakes for the first couple goals. Simply it wasn't good enough.

Newcastle 3-0 West Ham

"The first two goals we gave them the ball in dangerous areas, but still we have to react, the mistakes were individual mistakes but still we can react and make them up, it doesn't have to be a goal straight after our mistake.

"They were more powerful than us on the second ball, more physical than us, it wasn't good enough."

West Ham won at Cheltenham in midweek in the Carabao Cup second round, but Bilic refused to use that as an excuse for their defeat on Saturday.

The Croatian also admitted West Ham need the two-week international break to sort out "everything" about the team following this latest loss.

"We can talk about excuses, but after this kind of defeat and performance I don't want to talk about excuses. We are in a bad position; nobody can take us out of it other than ourselves.

"I can't say the midweek game is the reason why we didn't look fresh and fit enough today."

"We have to use this international break to sort the things out. Everything we need to sort, based on today, we didn't look good with the ball, and we didn't look good without the ball, so it's everything."
