Mcfly's Danny Jones is 'honoured' to be playing in the Game for Grenfell match

Mcfly's Danny Jones hopes to get a full house for the Queens Park Rangers' charity football match tomorrow to raise money for the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire.

The Game for Grenfell aims to unite the community through the power of football and raise funds for the survivors of the fire, which killed at least 80 people on June 14.

The match has a star-studded line-up featuring celebrities and former footballers like Alan Shearer, Les Ferdinand, Mo Farah, Marcus Mumford and singer Jones, who wants to show his support at Loftus Road.

"I'm honoured to be involved," he said. "It's great, we're here to be a part of it, to show our support and we'll do our best.

"It's amazing what QPR are doing, even opening their doors to help with counselling. I hear Fulham have got involved and a few other clubs around there.

"It's really nice to see that people are there to help and get together and unite as one and show the strength," he added. "We all need help in times like this and it's nice that they're there for us."

Money raised from tickets sales and other fundraising events will go directly through the London Community Foundation into the Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund, which is distributing funds to survivors and the wider community affected by the fire.

More than 2,000 complimentary tickets for the game will be given to those directly affected by the Grenfell fire, including families, the emergency services and volunteers, while fans can buy some there for £15 (adults) and £5 (concession).

Reflecting on the disaster Jones said: "It was sickening really, you thought it was under control, but driving past it even now is such a sickening sight.

"That's what this game is all about tomorrow, it's about bringing the community together, showing unity and strength and support for them."

After the disaster in June, Marcus Mumford, the lead singer from Mumford & Sons, became the driving force behind a new free football summer programme at the Westway Sports Centre, which has been set up specifically for the young children of Grenfell.

Jones plays down at the Westway Sports Ground and is really proud of the free football sessions that have been set up to help the survivors.

"The free schools they are putting on down there is amazing," he said. "It's something for the kids to help take their mind off the tragedy that happened.

"We're here tomorrow to show our support, get a full house and have a nice day."
