Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that Jack Wilshere will not feature in Tuesday’s Champions League match against Anderlecht.

The England midfielder, who has missed the last two matches with a knee problem, has been ill in recent days and did not take part in the Gunners’ training session on Monday morning, although he is expected to be back for Sunday’s Premier League trip to Swansea.

Arsene Wenger says Jack Wilshere will not be fit to play against Anderlecht in the Champions League

Wenger has no other fresh injury concerns following Saturday’s 3-0 home victory over Burnley and has named an unchanged squad, which includes the fit-again Theo Walcott, for the Group D fixture at the Emirates.

“Jack has been sick and will not be involved. The squad is exactly the same as played against Burnley,” said Wenger.

Arsenal defeated Anderlecht 2-1 in Belgium in their last European game after scoring two late goals and can qualify for the last 16 if they win and Borussia Dortmund do not lose to Galatasaray at home in the other Group D game on Tuesday.

“If we have an opportunity (to qualify), maybe, but it depends on the result in the other game,” added Wenger.

“But of course we play at home and we have an opportunity to win the game and we want to take this opportunity. We are on a good run and we want to take advantage of that.

More from Arsenal V Anderlecht

“We respect Anderlecht because they gave us a tough game and we had a little bit of a miraculous win, because we needed to go until the last minute. But that was, as well, our quality in this game.

“We are warned. We have learned a lot from the first game and, of course, now at the Emirates we want to win the game again.”
