Arsene Wenger passes Sir Alex Ferguson for Premier League games record

Arsene Wenger has now taken charge of more Premier League games than any other manager after he passed Sir Alex Ferguson's record on Sunday.

Wenger's 811th game since joining the Gunners in 1996 moves him ahead of the former Manchester United boss. Ferguson, however, managed United for 225 First Division games from his appointment in Nov. 1986 to the advent of the Premier League in 1992.

The Frenchman surpassed the Scot by taking charge of the game at West Bromwich Albion on New Year's Eve, which finished 1-1. Dec. 31 is Ferguson's 76th birthday, and West Brom were also the opposition for his 1,500th and final match in all competitions as United boss -- a memorable 5-5 draw at The Hawthorns on May 19, 2013.

The League Managers Association (LMA) issued a statement, which read: "Arsene's record achievement is yet another example of his professionalism and dedication to football management and to his club, Arsenal FC.

"Since arriving in North London in 1996, Arsene has won three Premier League titles, including the historic unbeaten 'Invincibles' season of 2003-04, and seven FA Cup titles. In addition, Arsenal has won the Community Shield seven times during Arsene's tenure."

LMA chairman Howard Wilkinson added: "On behalf of the League Managers Association and all our members, I would like to congratulate Arsene on his record breaking achievement. Now 811 Premier League games, and more to come, is testimony to all he has brought to football in England and to Arsenal FC. There are few certainties in football, but I'm sure his record will last forever."

LMA committee member Sir Alex Ferguson, who previously held the record, added: "I applaud Arsene on surpassing my record of managing 810 Premier League games. It is a fantastic milestone which has required the highest standards of dedication and professional management to achieve. I doubt his record, whatever it turns out to be, will ever be beaten.

"Congratulations on a truly remarkable career and great service to football and Arsenal FC."
