Liverpool's Sadio Mane, Huddersfield's David Wagner named best in August

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has been named the Premier League's Player of the Month for August, while Huddersfield Town's David Wagner won the manager's award.

Mane, 25, who has never won the award before, has been recognised after netting three goals in three games for Liverpool -- making him the Premier League's joint-top scorer this season alongside Romelu Lukaku.

The Senegal international's winner secured Liverpool a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace, while his goals also helped the club to a 4-0 win against Arsenal and 3-3 draw at Watford, leaving them second in the table.

"I want to say thanks to all of my teammates because without them I am nothing," Mane said. "I am happy with my start to the season. Everyone loves to score goals for their team, and it gives me more confidence."

Wagner won the Manager of the Month honour after guiding Huddersfield to an unbeaten start in both his and the club's debut Premier League season.

The Terriers beat Crystal Palace and Newcastle before drawing with Southampton, putting them third in the table after three weeks.

"It's an honour for me but I'd like to take this award for the whole club, especially my players," Wagner said. "I'd hoped that we would start well but I didn't expect it! It's only the start and now we need to be focused for the next one."
