Jose Mourinho 'worried' about getting new Marouane Fellaini deal done

MANCHESTER -- Jose Mourinho has admitted he is "worried" about Marouane Fellaini's contract stand-off.

Fellaini signed a one-year extension in January but will be out of contract at the end of the season.

Sources told ESPN FC in September that Mourinho was keen for the Belgian to agree new terms by the end of the year to prevent the midfielder from being able to negotiate with other clubs from Jan. 1. But with the little progress made since then, the United manager has revealed he is concerned.

Asked about Luke Shaw's contract situation at his news conference on Friday, Mourinho replied: "I'm worried about Fellaini and not about Luke Shaw, because Fellaini finishes his contract and Luke Shaw doesn't."

Mourinho has spoken glowingly about Fellaini since his arrival at Old Trafford. He has described the 29-year-old as being "more important than you will ever know" and laughed off suggestions he could move to Galatasaray in the summer by claiming it would be easier for the Turkish side to appoint him as manager.

Fellaini will miss Tottenham's visit to Old Trafford on Saturday with a knee problem.

He has missed the past four games after suffering a knee ligament strain while playing for Belgium during the last international break.
