Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris: We can close gap on Manchester City

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris believes his side can keep the pressure on leaders Manchester City if they show consistency.

Spurs lost 1-0 at Manchester United on Saturday, with City winning 3-2 at West Bromwich Albion to move eight points clear of the third-placed Londoners.

But Lloris feels it is too early to draw firm conclusions about the Premier League race and told reporters: "Before, even now, we don't really talk about the title.

"The target is to be as consistent as possible, to stay at the top of the table, ready to fight. The season is still long.

"City have a good advantage at the moment but every team is going to have their momentum and their bad moment too, so we just need to be consistent and be ready in the final sprint in March and April."

Old Trafford has not been a happy hunting ground for Spurs in recent years, but they were on course for a useful draw until Antony Martial struck late on after Romelu Lukaku had flicked on a long goal-kick.

"To lose this game in that way, in that type of action, makes us very disappointed because from a long kick from their keeper we should have been more organised," Lloris said.

"I don't think we played a great game in possession. I think we were great in the challenges and with the spirit -- it was a big, big battle -- but then we should have done a bit better with the ball at our feet.

"That wasn't easy because the opponent pressed a lot and they were very aggressive, but to lose the game on the basics is very frustrating.

"In that kind of game it's about details. The season is very long and it's not only about this game or another, it's about being as consistent as possible."

Spurs have lost their last two matches, having been defeated 3-2 by West Ham in the League Cup, and their next challenge is a Champions League showdown with holders Real Madrid at Wembley on Wednesday.

"It's true, it's two defeats in a row and it's not a good feeling," Lloris said. "It's a moment to stay calm, stay confident and talk to each other to digest this game.

"It's important to stay calm and prepare for Wednesday as well as possible."
