Manchester United fans to complain to UEFA about Sevilla ticket costs

Manchester United fans are set to complain to UEFA after Sevilla hiked ticket prices for their Champions League knockout clash.

Supporters could be forced to pay as much as £133 for a ticket for the round-of-16 tie in Spain in February.

United have confirmed they have received an allocation of 2,450 tickets priced between £89 and £133 for the game at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium on Feb. 21.

It is an increase of 40 percent on the £54 Liverpool fans paid for a ticket when they played Sevilla in the group stages in November.

Leicester fans were charged £51 per ticket for their round-of-16 tie at Sevilla last season.

Sources have told ESPN FC that United are aware of the issue while the Manchester United Supporters Trust say they are planning to take their case to UEFA.

A statement from MUST read: "It is too early to know whether we can change this but we are already in contact with both Manchester United and Football Supporters Europe (FSE) and will be lobbying UEFA and other bodies who may be able to influence this exploitative pricing."

United fans applying for tickets were initially told they would cost £54 -- an estimated cost set by United.

It is likely to mean some supporters will have to hand their tickets back if they are successful in the ballot.

Despite the complaints, Sevilla fans were charged €80 to €180 (£68 to £153 based on the exchange rate on Feb. 19, 2017, when tickets were made available) for their round-of-16 tie at home to Leicester last season.

A Sevilla source told ESPN FC that the prices had not been increased due to United's involvement and that the home fans would be charged the same amount for that clash, just as they had for the Liverpool game.

The source said: "The prices for the Champions League group stages are in general cheaper than for the last 16 so it's not because it's Manchester United that they become more expensive. If Sevilla advance to the quarterfinals, the tickets are likely to be more expensive than with respect to the previous round.

"Nonetheless, United fans will pay the same price that Sevilla fans paid against Liverpool in the group stages.

"For the game against Manchester, the fans of Sevilla will pay the same as those of United.

"The Manchester United fans will have five percent more [allocated tickets] than with respect to what they are entitled to -- 2,450 (goal stands -- 100 euros) and 245 in main tribune (150 euros)."

He added: "The Liverpool fans paid less because there was a previous agreement between the clubs (60 euros)."
