Frank Lampard sends message to Chelsea fans about Danny Drinkwater
Frank Lampard suggests that Chelsea have brought in adequate cover by signing Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater
Frank Lampard has suggested that Chelsea have brought in adequate cover for Nemanja Matic by signing Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater in the summer transfer window.
Chelsea opted to sell Matic to Premier League rivals Manchester United in the summer in a move which raised eyebrows amongst many fans after the Serbian helped the Blues win the title last season.
However, Antonio Conte has made sure that he has strengthened his midfield options by tying up deals for both Monaco midfielder Bakayoko and Leicester City man Drinkwater.
And although Lampard admits that Matic is likely to be a big loss, the former England star feels that Chelsea do have enough cover following the close of the summer transfer window.
Chelsea legend Lampard wrote in his column for the Evening Standard: “The structure that Conte set up last season with three at the back clearly works as they won the title and they have added a few players in midfield.
“I know they lost Nemanja Matic but Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater give them depth.”
Chelsea return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon with a crunch clash against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.
The west London side are currently in third place in the table after having won their last three Premier League games on the spin.
The Blues won the title for the second time in three seasons last term following Conte’s appointment at Stamford Bridge last summer.
