Arsene Wenger replies when asked if Mesut Ozil is leaving Arsenal for Barcelona

Arsene Wenger insists that he knows nothing about the reports linking Mesut Ozil with a transfer to Barcelona

Arsene Wenger has insisted that he knows nothing about the reports linking Mesut Ozil with a transfer from Arsenal to Barcelona next year.

The 29-year-old’s future has been a relentless source of speculation in recent weeks after both he and Alexis Sanchez entered into the final 12 months of their contracts at The Emirates.

As things stand, Arsenal could opt to sell Ozil for a fee in January or risk losing him on a free transfer in the summer window.

There have been reports in recent days suggesting that Ozil could be a transfer target for Spanish giants Barcelona.

However, Arsenal manager Wenger has moved to insist that he knows nothing about those claims and branded talk of a move to Camp Nou for Ozil as pure media speculation.

Asked if Ozil had already agreed terms with the Catalan club, Wenger is quoted as saying by Sky Sports: “No.

“What kind of control can I have over that [speculation]? All these people have agents who can talk to anybody. That doesn’t disturb people, that happens all through their career.”

Arsenal return to Premier League action on Wednesday night when they host newly-promoted Huddersfield Town at The Emirates.

The Gunners are aiming to challenge for the Premier League title this season after having finished in fifth place in the table last term.

Arsenal have not won the Premier League since their famous unbeaten triumph back in the 2003-04 campaign.
