Former Manchester United star Robin van Persie returns to Feyenoord

ROBIN VAN PERSIE is closing in on a sensational switch back to where it all began at Feyenoord.

The ex-Manchester United striker kick-started his career with the Dutch club as a 16-year-old before moving to Arsenal.

But 13-years after leaving Holland for the Premier League, Van Persie is set for an emotional return to his hometown.

Dutch publication Voetbalnieuws claim the player and club has reached an agreement over a one-year deal with the option of an extra year.

Feyenoord are hoping to come to an agreement with Fenerbache over his transfer but his wages have proved to be a stumbling block.

The 33-year-old scored nine times in a injury-hampered campaign for the Turkish side last season.

Feyenoord brought former Liverpool man Dirk Kuyt back to the club nine years after he left for the Kop and his return has proved a huge success.

Van Persie was being linked with a switch to Crystal Palace but new boss Frank de Boer opted against bringing him back to England.

Meanwhile De Boer could swoop for West Ham keeper Adrian in a £3million deal.

The Dutch manager wants to add a new keeper to his squad and believes he can sign the 30-year-old after West Ham landed Joe Hart.

Should the deal go ahead, Adrian will battle with Wayne Hennessey to be Palace’s number one.
