Manchester United make last-ditch attempt to sign Ivan Perisic and are closing in on a £48m deal
MANCHESTER UNITED will make a last ditch attempt to sign Ivan Perisic, according to reports.
Jose Mourinho has been chasing the Inter Milan winger all summer but has failed to match the club's £48million asking price.
United were thought to have turned their back on the 28-year-old after having a £35m bid rejected.
But according to the Mirror, the Red Devils are believed to be finally closing in on a deal after chief negotiator Ed Woodward held positive talks with the Italian giants.
Woodward is thought to have caved in and will open the cheque book and meet Inter Milan's demands.
Mourinho is desperate to land one more signing this summer with a winger his main priority.
The Portuguese boss said of his transfer dealings: "Twenty five per cent [left] means one of four, and we've got a central defender that can play in many other positions, which is important.
"Victor [Lindelof] can play right-back and can play central midfield. We got a central midfielder, we got a striker.

"Obviously the 25 per cent would be a player for another position, playing from the sides."
Mourinho was plotting an audacious bid for Real Madrid's Gareth Bale but conceded defeat in his chase for the Welshman.
Meanwhile United could complete a move for young starlet Bruno Amorim.
The 19-year-old striker is poised to join the academy at the Red Devils after the Portuguese side’s club director confirmed the deal.
