Footie legends Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville blasted by fans for charging £14 for pie and mash in their cafe
The former Manchester United players, who co-own Cafe Football, were accused of exploiting diners with sky high prices
Footie millionaires have been accused of exploiting fans by charging £14 for a pie meal in their cafes.
Manchester United’s former stars Gary and Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt run the diners.
Vegetable pies, beef and Bovril pies and chicken curry pies and mash all cost £14.
Fans slammed the pricing at Café Football which has outlets at Old Trafford, Stratford Westfield in East London and the National Football Museum in Manchester.
Grant Leppard summed up the feelings of many by tweeting: “Cafe Football #westfield upmarket #pieandmash not sure the @whufc_official fans will fork out £14 for it next season?”
Dame Agnes Guano wrote: “Pie and mash has been rebranded and now costs a mere £14. Thank you Cafe Football in Stratford.”
The chain’s website says: “Here at Café Football, we wanted to capture the essence of football in our menu.
“Football fans and foodies alike can appreciate our diverse, well-rounded menu.”
In 2016 the cheapest footie stadium to get a pie was Chelsea at £2.50 and the most expensive West Ham at £4.10.
A Cafe Football source said their pies costing up to £18 are served in restaurants not foil trays in stadiums.
A spokesperson said: "We feel this is competitively priced and good value for food that is quality and locally sourced and served in an ambient atmosphere."
