United have failed to build on his success since with their best coming finish coming two years later when they ended up in fourth.

And Henry, who is Arsenal's record scorer, believes Fergie's success needs to be further acknowledged.

The former striker was speaking to Sky Sports which marked 25 years since the league's inception.

He said: "When I met him for the first time, I called him Mr. Premier League. Thirteen. this is ridiculous.

"The trophy we see right there should have his name.

"People might disagree with this, and I'm not a Man United fan. Thirteen times? This is too much."

The Frenchman was also quick to pay homage to Fergie's ability to adapt with new backroom staff and coaches over his tenure.

"His ability to change his staff, bring a new number two and a new voice helped.

"I think he knew what he wasn't good at and so he selected coaches to do the stuff he wasn't good at."

Ferguson won his first in the 1992/93 season and then ended up winning seven in the first nine seasons.

His side never finished below third and his success was rewarded by having a stand at Old Trafford named after him.
