West Brom revive interest in Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho as Man City prepare improved bid for Jonny Evans

French defender hasn't played for the Reds since April 2016 when he was accused of failing a drugs test

WEST BROM are preparing for life without Jonny Evans by lining up a move for Mamadou Sakho.

The Liverpool outcast wants out of the club after falling out with boss Jurgen Klopp during pre-season a year ago.

The Frenchman was farmed out on loan to Crystal Palace last season where he ended up winning their Player of the Year.

And boss Tony Pulis wants to bring him to the Hawthorns as they line up a replacement for club captain Evans.

Manchester City are trying to tempt the Northern Irishman away from the Midlands side with a £25million bid.

But West Brom are reluctant to cash in and are demanding a staggering £35m for the former Manchester United centre-back.

It appears West Brom's late chase for Sakho gives the clearest indication yet that Evans is on his way to the Etihad.

Sakho had the chance to join the Baggies on loan last August but turned down the opportunity to fight for his Liverpool future.

But the 27-year-old hasn't played for Klopp's side since April 2016 when he was accused of failing a drugs test.

Pulis is working hard in the final weeks of the transfer window to improve his squad.

He has signed four players this summer including Jay Rodriguez and admits he expects more deals to be done.

He said: "We've got a lot of irons in the fire and we hope to get deals done and they have to be right for the football club."
