Arsenal transfer news: French trio Olivier Giroud, Alexandre Lacazette and Laurent Koscielny ‘went to Thomas Lemar’s bedroom to convince him to sign’

Gunners had a £92million bid accepted by Monaco for the winger but Lemar couldn't be persuaded to join the Emirates

ARSENAL'S French stars failed to convince Thomas Lemar to leave Monaco for the Gunners.

Boss Arsene Wenger launched a stunning last ditch £92million bid for the winger in an attempt to replace Alexis Sanchez.

And with the Ligue 1 champions accepting Arsenal's offer, Lemar crushed their hopes of landing his signature because he "didn't want to play for a Europa League team."

But Arsenal team-mates Olivier Giroud, Alexandre Lacazette and Laurent Koscielny all attempted to sway his decision whilst on international duty.

According to Guillem Balague, the Arsenal trio all went to his bedroom to try and convince Lemar to join the Emirates.

Talks with Lemar also proved complicated because the player is involved in France's World Cup Qualifier against Holland.

The 21-year-old's decision to turn down Arsenal has had a knock-on effect with Manchester City.

Arsenal would only let wantaway forward Sanchez leave if they could land a replacement before 11pm's deadline.

Manchester City were ready to spend £60m on the Chilean who had already told his international team-mates he was joining Pep Guardiola's side.

Sanchez has just a year left on his Arsenal contract and it now appears he will leave on a free transfer next summer with Guardiola left disappointed.

Boss Wenger insisted he would prefer to lose Sanchez for nothing in 2018 than cave in to the contract rebel.
