And Liverpool have launched an appeal to get the three-game ban against Mane overturned.

The club feel the length of the suspension is excessive and will try to get it reduced to one or two matches.

Mane issued a heartfelt apology to Ederson via Facebook and wished his opponent a speedy recovery following their “accidental collision”.

He posted: “I hope and wish Ederson a quick recovery.

“I am so sorry he was hurt during our accidental collision on the pitch and am sorry for him that he could not complete the match because of it.”
