But the right-back has handed boss Jurgen Klopp a boost as Liverpool's defence continues to attract criticism for conceding soft goals.

The German boss revealed that Clyne is running outside and hasn't had any problems with his back since.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool's Carabao Cup match against Leicester, he said: "Clyney yesterday had the third or fourth run outside, not the highest intensity, but a big step.

"He coped well so far with this."

Meanwhile Adam Lallana is progressing well from a thigh injury which has forced him on the sidelines for the start of the season.

Klopp added: "Adam is close to going outside and run. He's already on the altitude (training.)"

Liverpool are looking to bounce back against the Foxes following two draws and a 5-0 defeat at Man City.

And the manager is ready to ring in the changes to give the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a chance to impress at his new club.

He said: "It's a fantastic opportunity now for Alex (Oxlade-Chamberlain). Since he's been here it's been difficult to train on different things because it's game after game after game.

"Marko Grujic made a big step in his development but no-one can see it yet. And so it's really good to give him the opportunity. Still a young boy and stuff like this.

"Dejan (Lovren) should be okay for tomorrow, we will see. If we can leave him out (of training) again today it's pretty likely he'll be ready for tomorrow, which would be good."
