Scotland are searching for a new boss following Gordon Strachan's departure, with FA performance director Malky Mackay put in interim charge.

Gordon Strachan left his position as Scotland boss by "mutual consent" on Thursday, four days after the team failed to qualify for the World Cup.

Moyes has indicated that he would consider the vacant Hampden Park hotseat if he was approached by Scottish football's governing body.

The Scot is among the favourites for the job, and says he is "happy to talk" to the SFA.

“I don’t think anyone ever turns down their national team opportunity, but I think it has to be at the right time,” the 54-year-old told BBC Radio 5 live.

“My first choice would be to go back into club management, but if Scotland want to talk I’d be happy to speak see what they’ve got to say.”

Moyes also stated that he believes the next Scotland boss should be Scottish.

He said: "Scotland have looked at managers from abroad and I still think the best choice would be a Scottish manager.

"I would like it to be the rules all round the world that that is the case - you manage the country of your birth."
