PSV Eindhoven and RB Leipzig are also thought to have their eye on Schuurs as the next transfer window approaches as well.

Schuurs broke into Fortuna's first team last year, with the youngster making 24 appearances in all competitions.

The Daily Mail reports the 17-year-old had a trial at Anfield earlier in the year and impressed Liverpool's coaching staff.

Primarily a centre back also capable of playing in defensive midfield, Schuurs stands at 6ft 3in tall, and has been tipped for a bright future in the Netherlands.

The Mail also claims that Liverpool watched Schuurs as he played for Holland U19s against Hungary and Slovenia.

Schuurs has been earmarked as a possible defensive reinforcement for Jurgen Klopp after he failed to sign Virgil van Dijk.

The Reds were forced to issue an official apology after making an illegal approach for the Southampton star.

Schuurs is, however, considered one for the future by the Merseyside club.
