"I didn't improve at Arsenal"

Juventus keeper Wojciech Szczesny insists he did not improve during his time at Arsenal due to lack of quality coaching

The Polish goalie claims the English coaching system is not as technical as the Italian system is, especially for goalkeepers.

WOJCIECH SZCZESNY felt his performance didn't improve at Arsenal - as the quality of coaching paled in comparison to what he has experienced in Italy.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper has been outspoken about discrepancies between the coaching in Serie A compared to the Premier League.

In an interview with the Independent, the Polish international expressed his disappointment in the coaching style he experienced at Arsenal and called it less tactical and less sophisticated than what he experienced under their Italian counterparts.

He said: "The preparation for the game is different to what I was used to in England.

"I enjoyed working with some great coaches at Arsenal, Roma and Juventus, but the goalkeeping school in Italy is very different, it's very technical and pays more attention to the details."

The 6ft 4in goalkeeper spent the vast majority of his career at the Emirates, before a two-year loan spell to Roma, but claims that he was never pushed during his time at Arsenal like he is in Italy.

In a cutting review of his time in North London, the keeper said: "I couldn't say from a technical standpoint that I improved in any way from when I became first-choice at Arsenal until the day I left for Roma."

Whereas he states that he has moved on leaps and bounds in the two-and-a half years that he has spent in the Italian system thanks to the coaches and their technical analysis.

He admits that playing for his childhood club, Arsenal, was a dream but when Peter Cech became Arsene Wenger's firm favourite, after joining in 2015, Szczesny felt sidelined and knew it was time to move on.

The Polish shot-stopper has claimed his decision to join the Italian  system was the best decision he has made during his football career.
