Wayne Rooney set to play against Arsenal after being dropped for midweek Europa League clash
Everton have just two wins in eight Premier League games so far and Koeman hopes a rested Rooney will help spark a comeback for the Toffees
RONALD KOEMAN confirms Wayne Rooney will be back in action against Arsenal on Sunday after sitting out during the 2-1 defeat against Lyon.
With Everton sat 16th in the Premier League the Dutch boss decided to rest Rooney along with several other first-team regulars during the Europa League clash ahead of their next league match up.
The ex-Man United star has made 14 appearances for his boyhood club this season finding the back of the net four times.
But with the pressure mounting on Koeman to turn around a terrible start to the season he is determined to keep Rooney fit and rested ready to jump back into Premier League action.
The Toffees boss said after the Europa League loss: "He can still have a big impact in the games. What Wayne has in the team, on the training pitch and his impact with young players is huge.
"He is a great example for young players. I admire the way he does his job on the pitch and in training."
Everton's trouble spread off the pitch last night when an fan holding a young child attacked the Lyon keeper during a 20-player brawl.
The Toffees have banned the fan from attending future games and an investigation has been launched by Merseyside Police.
Meanwhile Everton have been charged by Uefa over the behaviour of the home supporters.
