Cesc Fabregas wants to sign new Chelsea deal despite growing interest from Manchester United

The 30-year-old midfielder hopes he has many more years at the top of his game, preferably at Chelsea where he trains 'as hard as possible' every day.

The Spanish star feels youthful despite turning 30 this year and isn't phased by the well-known Chelsea rule of offering older players yearly contracts.

Speaking with the Standard, the ex-Barcelona player said: "I know that people panic after players reach 30 and stuff like that, but I don't believe in this.

"I feel young in my mind. I train every day as hard as possible."

Chelsea's captain Gary Cahill broke the mould when he was offered a four year contract just before his 29th birthday- which may mean there is still the possibility of a two-year deal, for Fabregas, to keep him away from Mourinho's advances.

If the midfielder fails to get a contract extension from the Blues, Manchester United are likely to come knocking for the talented Spaniard.

In a shocking move this summer Chelsea sold Nemanja Matic to Manchester United, so the opportunity to poach another midfielder may well be on Mourinho's wishlist.

After all, it was Mourinho that brought Fabregas to England from Barcelona in 2014.

But, Fabregas seems resistant to move on from a club, and fans, that have treated him well over the last three years.

He is hopeful of an extension to his contract and said: "This is a fantastic club for me and I have had a fantastic time here. Hopefully another contract will happen. Time will tell."

He has achieved great success at Chelsea, having been part of the squad that were victorious in their 2015 and 2017 Premiership campaigns.

The former Arsenal captain has recently impressed Antonio Conte who has afforded the versatile midfielder more minutes than any other central players this season.

But United may well be keeping a close eye on Fabregas when they visit Stamford Bridge on Sunday and will be waiting in the wings if Conte does not cough up a contract.
