Mathieu Flamini rebuilding his career in Madrid… with Spanish second division outfit Rayo Vallecano
Ex-Arsenal and AC Milan midfielder has been without a club since his release from Crystal Palace at the end of last season
MATHIEU FLAMINI is trying to rebuild his playing career in Madrid - with second division club Rayo Vallecano.
The former Arsenal midfielder, 33, is a free agent after being released by Crystal Palace during the summer.
Flamini won two FA Cups in seven seasons with the Gunners, either side of a five-year spell with AC Milan.
The France international joined Palace in 2016, but made just 10 Premier League appearances for the Eagles in an injury-hit season.
He has now joined Rayo, based in the Madrid suburb Vallecas, on trial - and can sign for the Segunda Liga outfit at any time if he impresses their coach Michel.
West Ham's former Romanian defender Razvan Rat plays for Rayo, who dropped out of the top flight two seasons ago.
Marseille-born Flamini also has business interests in the biochemical industry.

He said: “Every morning, I am still waking up and I am 100 per cent committed to football. But, at the moment, I am waiting for the right opportunity.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to have received many offers from this country and Europe but I want the right project.

“The situation is straight- forward. It is not about just the club but a project, something that can stimulate me. To me, the project is more important."
It seems that "project" could well be to help Rayo Vallecano rise into La Liga - they are currently in eighth spot in the Segunda Division.
