Wayne Rooney makes incredible £750,000 donation just days before Christmas

The footballer personally delivered three cheques worth £250,000 each and met with children and families at three charities in Liverpool

WAYNE Rooney has given away three cheques for a total of £750,000 in donations to children's charities just a few days before Christmas.

The former England captain personally delivered the cheques (worth £250,000 each) to Claire House Children’s Hospice, Alder Hey Children’s Charity and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children in Liverpool.

Rooney got a chance to meet with children and families while presenting the cheques to staff.

The donation was made possible by money raised through his own charity, The Wayne Rooney Foundation.

The Everton striker has been involved in charity work throughout his football career.

He donated £100,000 to the victims of the Manchester bombing earlier this year, saying that he was "horrified that a night out for so many young people could end so tragically."

In 2013 Rooney's wife Coleen lost her 14-year-old sister Rosie after a long battle with Rett Syndrome - a rare genetic disorder that affects the way the brain develops.

Rosie was treated at Claire House Children’s Hospice and Alder Hey Children’s Charity.

Wayne and Coleen reportedly told guests at their wedding to make a donation to the hospitals instead of buying them presents.

The 31-year-old footballer posted a tribute to the late Rosie in February this year, on the day she would have celebrated her 19th birthday.
