Manchester United transfer news: Ivan Perisic could be on his way after Inter Milan admit they cannot keep him against his will

Jose Mourinho has been linked with the 28-year-old former Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg winger all summer

MANCHESTER United’s hopes of landing Inter winger Ivan Perisic increased as San Siro boss Luciano Spalletti admitted he cannot keep the Croatian against his will.

Jose Mourinho is desperate to bring the Inter star to Old Trafford.

United are unwilling to meet Inter’s £45m asking price for the 28-year-old former Dortmund and Wolfsburg star.

But Old Trafford executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is under pressure to meet Mourinho’s wishes.

And the prospect of a deal coming to fruition moved a significant step closer as Spalletti conceded he may have no choice but to let Perisic go if that is what the player wants.

Spalletti said: “I know him well, everyone knows him.

“For me the talk is always the same when it comes to him.

“He’s strong, he’s a player I want to keep with me, but then we must consider the opinion of the club and the player.”

And another player United have been given a boost in their hopes of signing is Gareth Bale.

Speaking after watching his Madrid side slump to a 4-1 friendly defeat against Manchester City in the US, Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane cast doubt on Bale’s future, as well as that of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.

The French boss said: “I hope the BBC [Benzema, Bale and Cristiano] stay for this season.

“I hope everyone remains. I want everyone who is here now to stay.

“But anything can happen right up until August 31.”
