Manchester United give Brazilian wonderkid Gabriel Martinelli a trial as Jose Mourinho plots signing of 16-year-old
The teenager has been training in Manchester while the first-team squad is on tour in the US
MANCHESTER UNITED have handed a trial to Brazilian teenage star Gabriel Martinelli.
The 16-year-old has been training at Carrington while Jose Mourinho and the first-team squad tour US in pre-season.
The highly-rated wonderkid was also given a cameo appearance for the Under-18s on Wednesday night in a 2-0 win over Lincoln City.
The Manchester Evening News report that United coaches are now casting their expert eye over Martinelli, who plays for Brazilian club Ituano, before deciding on whether to hand him a contract.
The teenager came on for Nishan Burkart and played the last half hour at Sincil Bank.
It was the first time a United team has played at Lincoln City in more than 60 years - and a crowd of more than 2,000 was there to watch.
Millen Baars and Brandon Williams scored the goals.
Mourinho's squad have now finished their five-game tour of the US and will fly back to Europe this weekend.
