Tottenham optimistic on Kieran Trippier injury after defender pictured on crutches after limping out of Juventus friendly

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino says the injury to his first choice right-back won't impact on club's transfer dealings

MAURICIO POCHETTINO has played down the injury suffered by Kieran Tripper after the defender was pictured on crutches after the Juventus friendly.

Spurs' first-choice right-back limped off during his side's 2-0 win yesterday (Saturday) at Wembley, and there are fears he could miss the start of the season.

But Pochettino says he believes the injury "isn't a big issue" and won't impact on their transfer dealings.

Speaking after the Juventus game, the former Southampton boss said: "We need to assess him [Trippier] on Monday and then we will see.

"Now the feeling is good. It's true that he has crutches, but it's good. We hope that it is not a big issue.

"We are working, trying to add some players to the squad. But that does not change our idea.

"Our idea was, the same as before, to try to provide the team with more strength and try to sign a few players before the end of the transfer window."

The 26-year-old had to be assisted as he limped off round the Wembley pitch, after coming off worse from a sliding challenge on Alex Sandro.

He had to be replaced by Kyle Walker-Peters in the 41st minute, after screaming in agony just seconds after his attempted tackle.

The former Burnley star went down clutching his knee, where he immediately received treatment by the physio.

Trippier was unable to walk off on his own, leaving boss Mauricio Pochettino with a headache prior to next Sunday’s clash with Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
