Twitter reacts to the ABBA-style penalty shootout system in Arsenal vs Chelsea Community Shield clash

The Gunners beat the Blues 4-1 in the shootout at Wembley Stadium after the match finished 1-1 after 90 minutes

ARSENAL may have beaten Chelsea in the Community Shield, but it was the ABBA penalty system that left fans talking.

After the match finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, the match went to a penalty shootout, with supporters slating the new system in place.

Instead of both teams taking a spot-kick one by one, the shootout switched to a similar style used in a tie-break set in tennis.

Chelsea took the first penalty, with Arsenal and the West London side then taking two penalties consecutively.

Gary Cahill found the top corner with the first penalty, with Theo Walcott and Nacho Monreal then duly converting for the FA Cup champions.

Then Thibaut Courtois blazed high over the bar, before Alvaro Morata clipped the outside of the post, giving Arsenal the chance to win if they converted their next two attempts.

Which they made no mistake with.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain  found the bottom right corner, with Olivier Giroud sealing a famous win as he curled home into the top right corner to spark jubilant scenes.

Chelsea looked to be on course for Community Shield glory when Victor Moses fired the Premier League winners in the lead just after the break.

But they went down to ten-men after Pedro was shown a straight red card for a dangerous lunge on Mohamed Elneny.

From the resulting free-kick, summer signing Sead Kolasinac expertly headed home into the bottom right corner in the 82nd minute after a beautiful whipped in delivery from man of the match Granit Xhaka.

However the major talking point was the ABBA style shootout, which did not go down well.
