Romelu Lukaku scores first Manchester United goal… but moments after an AWFUL miss against Real Madrid

The £75million striker redeems himself by netting in the Uefa Super Cup after his embarrassing howler had Red Devils supporters looking to the heavens.

ROMELU LUKAKU endured a rollercoaster night on his competitive debut for Manchester United - bagging his first goal after an embarrassing miss.

The Belgian opened his account for his new employers midway through the second period of the Uefa Super Cup clash with Real Madrid.

But his effort was only making amends for an atrocious and howling miss just moments earlier and a poor first half performance.

Casemiro and Isco had fired the Champions League winners into a two-goal lead when Lukaku's big moment arrived.

However, supporters of the Red Devils had their head in their hands on 54 minutes - as did the £75million hitman.

Paul Pogba had a header saved by Keylor Navas from six yards out, with the ball falling perfectly for the ex-Everton man.

But just as his team-mates got ready to celebrate with their new colleague, they could only join fans in watching on in disbelief as he blazed high over the bar.

An absolute shocker.

Luckily Lukaku was able to make amends inside ten minutes as he managed to claw a goal back.

Navas again parried an effort, this time Nemanja Matic's long-ranger, and Lukaku made no mistake this time as he confidently tucked the ball home.

But that was not enough to convince everyone of his talents -as these Tweets show:
