Chelsea manager Antonio Conte wants Premier League champions to make a £40m move for Tottenham ace Danny Rose
Italian boss is targeting Spurs' left back as it looks increasingly unlikely they will be able to sign Alex Sandro from Juventus
ANTONIO CONTE wants Chelsea to raid Tottenham with a bid for Danny Rose.
The Stamford Bridge boss has conceded he is very unlikely to prise Brazilian Alex Sandro from Juventus — with the Italians holding out for £60million.
Conte, who has made it clear he wants to bolster his squad significantly before the end of August, has now pinpointed Rose — with Southampton’s former Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand a back-up option.
Rose, also a long-term Manchester United target, has been out with a knee injury since January and had surgery in May.
But he is expected to be back to full fitness by the end of August.
Chelsea bid for Rose two years ago when the atmosphere between the clubs was described as ‘poisonous’ — a situation that has since improved.
Spurs have been adamant they will sell no more key players this summer after offloading Kyle Walker to Manchester City in a £50m deal — a move Chelsea attempted to hijack.
But now the Blues are likely to tempt Spurs to do business for Rose, 27, with a bid of around £40m.

And they know the player, who has four years left on his contract, could more than double his £65,000-per-week Tottenham wages at the Bridge. If Spurs refuse to listen, the champions could switch their attentions to Bertrand, who they sold for £10m in 2015.
Conte wants competition for Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses and feels the pair are suited to his wing-back system.
And he wants the Chelsea hierarchy to get busy.
Meanwhile, Spurs hope to learn the full extent of Kieran Trippier’s injury today.
The right-back twisted his ankle in Saturday’s friendly win over Juventus at Wembley.
He left on crutches wearing a protective boot but if yesterday’s scan shows it is just a twist, he could be fit for Sunday’s Prem opener at Newcastle.
